What have been the key challenges and how have you overcome these?Tri Thanh- Le
The key challenge is the difficulty to work together remotely under two different systems. We overcame this difficulty by maintaining a lot of meetings via Skype and email discussions. Social Medias (e.g. Google Drive) have also been utilised for this purpose. Exchange visits have also helped in understanding the partners better.
There has also been a challenge of recruiting researchers with the right expertise on time. The complex nature of the recruitment process in the UK (visa approval, advertisement, and multiple-level approvals) has caused some delays to LJMU in recruiting the right person. The fact that the UK university has to pay pension and national insurance has also added big delays, because it adds an additional approval process. We have been trying to overcome this by getting supports from higher management in the universities to speed up the process.
There was also an unexpected problem: a recruited researcher has had to terminate his contract early due to personal issues. Efforts are being made to find a replacement as soon as possible.
